It would have been easy to substitute the pie for something less 'meaty', But I'm Leicestershire born. Meton Mowbray was my birth Town. but, I spent my very early years in the Village of Asfordby, that was until we moved South..
Still have the taste for a Melton Mowbray pork pie and some Stilton Cheese.
Sounds like you have quite a Garden there...
I'm feeling a tad envious..

PS... Never had any luck growing Garlic. They always seem so small... Luckily We buy loads from France at a good price.. |

| Ahh! Fascinating little by-ways.
Just re re-read your post Steve and was about to post a reply when my wireless internet link crashed (I've plugged a cable into my lap-top now). Very interesting indeed, also the Icknield Way link, thanks for that.
Appetising picture of your lunch Tony, 'fraid my rocket came from the supermarket and I won't say which one as don't want to upset you. My little walled garden is a bit of a slug-snail heaven so I just let them get on with - I do get some rather wonderful wild blackberries growing over the wall though (soon). |

Most of what we eat comes from the Supermarkets.
I do like to cook food from basic ingredients though. Where I can, that is..
As long as you stay away from the unholy, evil place...

I checked in the fridge and am relieved to tell you that my rocket was organically grown from ..... the Co-op. (I remember how you feel about S).

| Meteorites my ****! Theyr'e nodules of haematite - a sort of iron ore.
I do believe the location though - someone from Yatesbury showed me a box full of these - all gathered from round here. He thought they'd fallen from the sky too. |

Agreed..
The one on the rightm is the colour of the ones I found on Seaford Beach. (Dark brown) The other two appear to be very weathered and oxidized..
Apparently they were used as Ships ballast.

| This post is for Megadread: Am hoping to do a section of the Ridgeway on Sunday with the Ramblers - haven't been out with them for some time but on Sunday they are doing "Ridgeway Walk No 11: Along Grim's Ditch to Nuffield, return via Homer and Hailey". I have no idea where that is (somewhere near Reading I think) but I get to car-share to the start of the walk.
I will think of you Mega and the thing to remember is the internet is not real life, you can log off anytime - you have a very real life which the nutters making meaningless and empty threats obviously haven't.
REAL LIFE: tonight I came home, pouring rain, sat down with my ritual cuppa only to hear the sound of dripping in the kitchen - water coming through the ceiling, either the roof is leaking or the boiler's sprung a leak. Managed to track it to the boiler, water everywhere, phoned British Gas sounding as pathetic as I possibly could. Cat decides to throw up in the kitchen ...... and so on and so forth.
Don't stay away too long Megadread, next week it will all be forgotten. Love and Light.
Shine on!

| Good to see you back Megadread, I've just read your TMA link and was appalled - I can understand your reaction completely; using someone's family to intimidate them is nothing short of criminal behaviour.
I don't 'do' religion but I do believe in the 'law of karma'.
Thank you for the compliment (not sure I deserve it, I've had my moments of bad behaviour nothing ever like above though). Your beautiful little daughter will grow up fine with you and her brothers to protect her.
Very best to you and your family. |

| I met up with a local Ramblers group today to do their Ridgeway Walk No 11, they are doing sixteen walks until they reach Ivinghoe (that spelling doesn't look right). I car-shared to the point where the walk started which was to be a walk up onto the Ridgeway along Grim's Ditch. The first thing I saw when I climbed out of the car was the wonderful site of three red kites flying really low and doing a few aerobatics - this was the first time I have ever seen a kite and I thought them truly beautiful. Someone said they are a common sight in that area. We saw a couple more while we walked, in one instance a much smaller bird was sky-diving at a kite which must have been near the smaller bird's nest.
It was a wonderful walk (11miles), saw some pyramid orchids along the path up (was talking to someone about cameras when I heard myself say "is that an orchid", he quickly swung his camera into action). 'Fraid I forgot mine this morning so haven't got any pictures, never mind. The pub stop overlooking pasture-land with sheep was very enjoyable (mine's a half of Brakspears). The Chilterns have a different feel to the Marlborough Downs, reinforcing that the Wiltshire landscape is unique.
For anyone who wants to photograph red kites, apparently there is a large kite population around Christmas Common which will be part of the Ridgeway Walk No 12, taking place on September 14. Anyone who would like to join them for a one off walk would be welcome - that one is 12 miles and described as 'strenuous'. |
