Having left full time employment, I took a part time job on the 'Counters' at S.. I worked on 'Food to Go' and the Cooked Meats and Cheese Counters. there are anther two Counters. Fish and Meat. FTG and CM&C staff can 'Cross over' (There is no risk of contamination). Fish and Meat can not 'cross' between themselves or the other counters (Cross contamination).

It was normal to see one person running both Meat and Fish. And, at break times, for a member of CM&C to 'Cover' meat and Fish...

Both Meat and Fish Staff use bare hands to handle food. So, cut up Liver, handle hamburgers etc. Quick wash of hands and handle cooked Prawns etc...

Plus.. Fish has a short shelf life and sells slowly. On the back of the price label is a date. written by the staff telling when the food should be removed from display. It's very easy to remove that date and change it to a later date..

The Store Manager has 'Wastage' meetings on a regular basis and the Pressure on staff to save money is considerable...

Anyway, I don't buy Fish and some Meats from the Counters and watch procedure carefully...

Yeah, I regret entering this discussion at any level really (thanks Pete for coming in there). I have re-read Tenpin's post and agree it was not necessary to used the expression "bunch of unkempt, smelly hippie types" but what initially I read was he was asking for tolerance, we are all 'tourists' after a fashion when we visit, usually by car, anywhere that is not our home. The golden rule is to treat all places with respect and tread quietly - and for me personally, only to travel by car if I absolutely have to.

I do not wish to offend or upset any one on this forum which have found to be knowledgeable, tolerant and often very funny.
