CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

(Sorry for the delay in posting, but my mouse broke and only got a new one today. Blooming hard work using a laptop without a mouse!)

Pete - going back to HDR, I took a panorama out of my bedroom window earlier this evening (it's 3 shots stitched together). It's just taken with a little 3.2 meg Nikon. Would your trick work on this, even though I only have the one exposure?

Here's a little version of the picture. There's a rainbow over Windmill Hill on the right but it's not very good. I wondered if HDR would bring out more detail.

Excellent! Very impressive. The detail that's appeared in the cloud is lovely.

No, they're quite good!

I'm sat facing that same view through the window, but it's pitch black outside. At one minute past midnight a firework display started over Windmill Hill! It's still going on - maybe the Marlborough Jazz Festival?
