It's pure coincidence that as I change from a yin yan to a double mobius Strip Corn circle design. Somebody lays out a double yin yan design...

June just search for 'animated avatars' like these.

animated avatars

Right click on the one you want and save image as......
Remember the name of the image and its location.
Go to your profile and click the avatar button, then click browse and click on the avatar you saved, the rest is obvious.
You dont have to join or pay.
you can even make your own at some sites, if you can be bothered .

PostSubject: 'Pi-eyed at circle'   Fri Jun 20, 2008 7:21 pm

Just returned from my holiday and picked up the local paper today - here is a headline on page 3

Quote:
PI-EYED AT CIRCLE
American tourists, mystic gurus, and hoards of hippies have been making a pilgrimage to a possible alien landing site near Barbury Castle. Crop circle enthusiasts believe the circular formation found near Wroughton is the genuine article - and is one of the most mathematically accurate crop circles ever seen. Boffins have concluded the shape of the flattened barley stems represent the mathmatical constant Pi.

The Barbury Crop circle represents 3.141592654...The first ten digits of Pi ........
The circles showthe three dots used in maths to show that the number continues infinitely.

Mathematician, Mick Dams from Swindon College thinks that it is probably the work of Oxford University maths students as nothing that mathmatically complicated could be produced by atmospheric pressures .....and being a mathematician he doubts the existence of aliens (I'm with him there). To quote him: "I'm still impressed and it looks beautiful."

Apologies if this has already been mentioned here, I haven't caught up with all the posts yet but thought it might be of interest.

Wishing everyone a happy mid-summer solstice however you spend it - especially Megadread who I believe is at Avebury.

Sunlight and peace
June

Megadread's having a great time. Yesterday he went with me to the camp where all the King's Drummers are based, down near Savernake Forest. Then we went up Adam's Grave; saw lots of orchids and then down into Alton Priors to see the Yew, church and springs. Last night we went to Avebury. The drummers were fantastic. A very good day, but I'm shattered now!

Tony, what are you on? Can I have some.

The article in yesterday's Swindon Advertiser about the Pi crop circle at Barbury Castle generated some cyncical comments on the paper's web-site. Here is one from Captain Sensible (who recently played with the Damned in a local venue).

"It doesn't say much for the intelligence of extraterrestrials if they are willing to travel millions of light years in advanced spaceships to land in a field at Barbury Castle and trample a load of barley down into funny shapes. Methinks someone is having a laugh at the crop circle weirdo's expense."

All good fun and artistic too, I love them. I didn't make it out to Avebury for the solstice (but may go out there on Thursday, my day off - if the sun decides to shine a bit). I celebrated the solstice by buying Rosemary Hill's book on Stonehenge; the Avebury (Sun, Moon and Earth) by Maria Wheatley and Busty Taylor; and the Ridgeway National Trail Companion. Oh and if you're out there Steve, I also bought a DVD copy of "This is Spinal Tap" for a fiver in the HMV sale.

I very much look forward to reading Megadread's account of his stay - it sounds as though Pete and Steve did him proud and helped him have a solstice to remember.

As crop circles go i think thats a crap design, its not even circular. Very Happy
I was totally unprepaired as to how serious some people take these things, After taking four american ladies to the site of the one near the WKLB they ran to it like a long lost child.
afterwards she insisted on hugging me but informed me she would be more comfortable approaching me, i just stood there and "got hugged".

I asked one of them why she felt the need to visit the site, to take "energy" she informed me. On asking if she ever put energy back into anywhere she asked me "do you".I told her to come to lionels performance at the circle and watch me dance to the drums, i exude energy back into the landscape that way i told her, she had no answer.

I know two local ladies who claim to be witches.
After every public ceremony they go around cleansing the stones and the circles.

What annoys me about croppies is that some fly half way around the world to stand in a field marveling at the formation and totaly fail to see the spectacular monuments arounds them for what they are.

The race to be the first inside a corn circle is pathetic.
As if it somehow imbues them with some mystik quality.

funny you should mention the lens.
I got a quick shot of Saturn tonight from a static tripod which shows the rings.

I'll try it with a 3X convertor and piggyback it on my scope for some galaxy pics.

It is very soft for landscape work.
From windmill hill Silbury doesn't fit full frame!
I'll have to try hdr to get some depth.

British UFO sightings at 'bizarre' levels
By Laura Clout
Last Updated: 2:36PM BST 07/07/2008
Whether alien activity or natural phenomena, reports of UFOs have flooded in this summer from across the country.
British UFO sightings at 'bizarre' levels
Plotted on a map of Britain, the sightings can be seen to stretch from Liverpool to Dover and from Llanelli to Derby

Whatever the explanation, experts agree that the number of suspected flying saucers has hit unusual highs this summer.

Malcolm Robinson, who studies the phenomenon, said: "Something very bizarre is happening in the skies over the UK."

The founder member of Strange Phenomena Investigations, added: "There has been an unusual number of sightings recently.

"Some experts believe it could be linked to global warming and craft from outer space are appearing because they are concerned about what man is doing to this planet."

Among mysterious flying objects spotted in recent months was a 'glowing' disc spotted above the M5 motorway.

Royal Navy aircraft engineer Michael Madden said he watched the UFO for three minutes before it 'zoomed off' near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

Earlier, in Basingstoke, witnesses claimed to have seen a fleet of 12 orange objects in the night sky for half an hour.

And in St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan a police helicopter crew gave chase to another UFO after it appeared to veer at speed towards their aircraft.

One UFO spotter however was left red-faced after his report of a mysterious flying saucer in South Wales turned out to be nothing more other-worldly than the moon.

There's a new crop circle in the famous 'East Field' at Alton Barnes. This is the place where the design featured on the Led Zeppelin sleeve came from. Over the years there have been some terrific designs - one was a DNA spiral over 300 ft long. The current one is pretty rubbish - the sort of design you could knock up quickly with a pair of compasses:

It looks like rubbish to me, but according to one of the experts on Crop Circle Connector, it's yet another reference to the solar eclipse coming up on the 16th of August:

Maybe there IS intelligent life out there and its avoiding the croppies.

Do you remember Douglas Adams' bored alien teenagers who would buzz earth on purpose? They wouldn't get the right reaction from Croppies!
