| Great stuff! Thanks Pete.
Part 3 was the most interesting, I thought. I didn't realise that Aubrey Burl was such a fan of astroarchaeology. It was very trendy at that time - so was Aubrey, judging by his dearstalker. |

| Aubreys not convinced but follows it with interest. I sent him a copy of the 1974 film Mystery Of Stonehenge when a dapper Gerald Hawkins came to Stonehenge to show CBS his astro findings. Aubrey was thrilled as he had met all the people in the film, Piggott, Thom, Daniels and Atkinson. He told me "Prof Atkinson was my outside examiner when I was a student. He eventualy gave up on me and gave me a pass saying 'your stone circle research will come to nothing'"
Let me know if you want a dvd of the film, PeteG |

I really enjoyed watching these Pete and found them very 'accessible' to someone such as myself who loves Avebury but doesn't have much knowledge in the way of archaeology. It was all really fascinating but the bit that captured my imagination was when the elipse and non-circular circles were talked about - the elipse shape is very interesting as I understand that is the shape of the earth.
I have never seen any footage of Aubrey Burl before and he came across as a 'plain English' sort of person. Talking of which, I have started reading the Rosemary Hill book about Stonehenge and am already starting to understand a lot more about it than I did before - I have never been close up the Stones and would love to actually touch them. |
