| Just been tidying up a bit (not before time) and flicked through the June edition of Wiltshire Life. I don't know how I missed it but there is a very interesting article in there about the farrier who shoes the Shire horses belonging to Wadworth Brewery in Devizes (text and photographs by one Steve Marshall). As with most 'old' skills it is increasingly difficult to keep it alive; the farrier Darren Oldman informs us that China has bought up 90 percent of the world's steel (that's scary).
Yesterday, I was kidding around with a young woman who works with me. She had a dreamy far-away look and I said 'are you a hippy' (joke). She wasn't sure; her home is in Cornwall - Dad's a potter, Mum's a weaver and her sister is a blacksmith.
Talking to people is a constant source of fascination.
Great stuff Steve, apologies for not picking up on it sooner. |
